The Division of Justice is investigating whether or not Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old woman and paid for her travels with him, The New York Occasions reported Tuesday.
The federal government is analyzing whether or not Gaetz violated federal intercourse trafficking legal guidelines, in response to the newspaper, which cited three individuals briefed on the probe. The congressman has not been charged.

The Justice Division declined to remark to CNBC on the Occasions report.
Gaetz, a 38-year-old conservative firebrand and shut ally of former President Donald Trump, denied the reported allegations in opposition to him. He mentioned that he’s being threatened in a $25 million “organized felony extortion” scheme.
Gaetz went on to say he was cooperating with the FBI and his father “has even been carrying a wire on the FBI’s path.”
Gaetz advised Axios on Tuesday that he didn’t know what the particular allegations in opposition to him had been.
Requested what they could relate to, Gaetz advised Axios: “I’ve undoubtedly, in my single days, offered for girls I’ve dated. You recognize, I’ve paid for flights, for lodge rooms. I have been, you recognize, beneficiant as a companion. I believe somebody is making an attempt to make that look felony when it isn’t.”
